Two or three years ago, if we were talking about marketing your rental property, I would say that Craigslist is where we find 90 percent of our tenants. But today, we only find about 45 percent of our tenants on that site. The difference has been made up by Zillow, Trulia, and rental sites like those. Today, we’re talking about where you should advertise your rental property.

Popular Online Rental Sites

Rental sites like Zillow and Trulia offer prospective tenants a wealth of information, especially compared to Craigslist. On Craigslist, you can see a map and a description and some photos. But on Zillow, you get neighborhood information, and a walkability score that shows you how close the property is to trails and restaurants downtown. You also get school ratings for the area, and an estimation of home values. So, tenants like sites such as those rather than Craigslist.

Marketing Your Rental Property

When we market your home, we use about 15 websites like that, including HotPads, MyNewPlace.com, Zillow, Trulia, and even Craigslist. We try to get the most exposure that we can for your property. We are also intentional about spending one-on-one time with prospects instead of the open house model. This gives us the opportunity to educate potential tenants about Marin and the advantages of living in this beautiful community. We can talk about the school districts and the recreational opportunities.

Marketing Your Rental Property - thumbnailI was born and raised in Marin, so I like sharing information and talking about how great the area is. It’s helpful when we’re marketing your home to high quality tenants.
