ENERGY EFFICIENCY TIPS
Here are some tips to help you save money (and energy) this Winter Season! Open drapes and let the sun help heat your home during the day, and then close them at night to keep your house insulated. Turn off lights when you leave the room. Plug electronics into power-strips, and turn off the power-strip when the equipment is not in use. Turn off the quick start or “standby mode” on your TV. Use the proper light bulbs in lamps and make sure you have the correct bulb in the correct fixture—for example, “dimmable” bulbs work best with dimmer switches. Turn off kitchen and bathroom ventilating fans after they have done their job—these fans can inadvertently move warm air out of your home if they are left on for extended periods of time. Shorten showers by just a few minutes to cut both water and heating costs. Only run the washer or dishwasher when you have full load. Adjust the temperature on your thermostat to be as comfortably low as possible when you are home/awake. Use LED lights for holiday decorations.
