Mill Valley was named #4 on the list of “Best Small Towns in America” by Smithsonian Magazine, who noted that their search was based on the amount of culture (historical sites, botanical gardens, museums, galleries) in an area with less than 25,000 residents. Mill Valley has an incredible history filled with rich music and arts—home to even the famous Sweetwater Music Hall. The Mill Valley Film Festival is a major annual attraction, as well as the famous outdoor Mountain Play which takes place to inspire a strengthened community who celebrates nature and decades of tradition. Speaking of mountains, you can’t go anywhere in Mill Valley without being stunned by the amazing views of Mount Tamalpais, the highest peak in the Marin Hills (which is at 2,571 feet)! Mill Valley is also home to the oldest cross-country race in the nation: The Dipsea Run. The Dipsea is a 7.5 mile foot race that ends in Stinson Beach. Mill Valley also includes the sub-city area of Strawberry, too! Strawberry sits on a small peninsula that juts into Richardson Bay and boasts a lovely residential community and a newly renovated shopping center.
